Paperwhites, Herend & Bunnies AKA: Superbowl Widows Unite

Happy the month of  January is over !
That means we are 31 days closer to spring !

Can't complain about the weather this winter.

We've had a few snowflakes, they look pretty coming down but don't stick.
Outside I can see things coming up in the gardens, but in the house I have buckets of bulbs in bloom.

Though I'd share my very
Girly Superbowl Widows Dinner
 table with you.

Yes, It's SPRING in the House !

Some of my little bunnies have escaped the Easter box and ended up on the table early this year.

I  LOVE  ♥ Herend ♥

And  I  Love Paperwhites !

Some of the Herend pieces I've had for years, they still fascinate me.
The little rosebuds they use are amazing.
And they mix and match with other sets well !

I love the daises on this set of dishes!

LOOK ... YIKES I turn my back on the window and it started to snow!

Sigh... I love my kitchen fireplace. The contractor didn't understand why I wanted it so high. We just love it. Some mornings I come down to a fire and coffee already made and waiting for me ...
Yes, being a Superbowl widow isn't all that bad.

So come on in and sit by my fire and warm up.

 Soup

  and
MMothers Chicken Mandarin Orange is on the menu !

Chicken Mandarin Orange

Serves 6 to 8
(one large casserole dish, bake at 350  for 40 minutes covered, and 20 minutes uncovered.)

4 Large Chicken Breast

½ Cups of Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Pepper
A few fresh leaves of Rosemary, chopped
Butter to Brown Chicken
1/2 Cup of Soy Sauce
1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon Mace
2 - 11oz cans Mandarin Oranges (open cans separate juice and oranges, set aside)
1 Large Orange, (Grate whole orange, set aside, juice orange, set aside).
1/2 Cup of Cashews
1/2 Cup of Pea

1.   Cut chicken breast in to smaller pieces. I like strips.  Set aside.
2.   In a bowl mix the following, flour, salt, pepper, rosemary.  Toss all the chicken in and mix to coat.  Remove chicken and brown in butter on stove top.  You only have to brown the sides, it will finish cooking in the oven.
Remove chicken and place in casserole dish.
3.   In a separate bowl mix the following, soy sauce, brown sugar, mace, orange grating, orange juice, juice from mandarin orange cans. pour over chicken in casserole dish.
4.   Sprinkle with cashews, cover the dish and bake for 40 minutes.
5.   Remove from oven add the mandarin oranges, and peas. Give the dish a shake or to and return it to the oven uncovered for the last 20 minutes.

Serve over rice.

Enjoy!  Jules ~

Thursday Family Supper

When family comes to visit I love to cook.

We are celebrating a family wedding this week and have guests and family arriving.

Keeping with the rest of the green in the room I added some other color, whites and yellows.

I love this time of year.

Cool air !

Fires !

The sun sets early so candle light becomes part of the evenings.

Less time in the garden, More time in the kitchen.

Majolica

Fall is such a great season.

Getting ready for the Holidays is such a pleasure knowing that family and friends will be visiting.

Getting out the Thanksgiving dishes

Collection Majolica has been a passion of mine for years.

My Grandmother left me two pieces. Knowing that they belonged to her makes them very special. I have added to my small collection and love the rich green with the colors of fall.

Pool Side Dinner For Two

All the kids are gone for the evening.

So it was just Doug and Me for dinner.

Really simple menu tonight.

Just a salad and some amazing mac and cheese leftovers.

Certainly not a hard ship eating leftovers, the macs came out to good to be true!

So while things are heating up in the oven,  I thought I'd show you my new domes I made.

What do you think?  I only used two but there are four of them.
Here is a link to the making of them and a little story that goes behind the scenes.

I like how the plates came out.

Look we have some dinner guests that have already shown up.

Think he see's me!

My favorite all time flatware.
It was the last two sets of the  green  handled flatware Horchow had.
I was impressed that I really got them. The first time them mailed to me it was the wrong set and I was told they were all gone.  I called the next day and was told they found two last sets, did I want them? Oh Yea.

I put out the bigger (soup) spoons so we could twirl our noodles on them.

the glassware is from Homegoods.   More than one store to get a set of them.

Gin and Tonics Welcome Home

Husbands  are amazing people.  Mine puts up with me and has been elevated to sainthood by my friends.  So as a surprise I treated him to  dinner  on the porch.  We started off the evening with gin and tonics.

He's easy to  surprise.   The smile on his face was worth the prep-work.

With the weather as hot and  sticky  as it was,  I chilled everything.  Shrimp cocktail for him too.  I made this set of napkins.  I needed man napkins.  Men don't want a pink napkin with their drink.   Black  and  white  was a good choice, what do you think?

With the US Open weeks away I decided to get out our  golf  glassware.

See  that  golf ball in there !

Plenty of cold  limes.  We add a whole lime to every drink.  The extra lime juice makes a great G and T.   I love this tray too.  I don't over polish  silver.  I don't mind little age spots.
